Beach Beach Beach

Continuing with our annual summertime traditions of beaching it up Memorial Day weekend and the week of July 4th, this year brought just as much fun as always.

Aidan and Gavin are getting more and more fearless when it comes to the ocean and officially learned how to ride their boogie boards with Daddy's help. :) Connor couldn't have been a more well-behaved beach baby- content with playing on the blanket and in the sand and not venturing near the ocean.

We love our times spent down at the seashore, with each other and with our friends and family who join us!  Here are some photos from this summer's time spent in Bethany.

One of my favorite pastimes- digging for sand crabs. We always find some!

Gavin played the role of racedriver perfectly after Kevin built him this sand car!

Mini-golf time!
Guess who won. ;-)

Then it was Gavin's turn. :)
We walked by this vintage Pepsi poster and Gavin asked if I could look like that some day...

Pops bought a super cool remote-control boat..
The boys had a blast driving it, until the current swept it farther than the remote control's range..
This was Gavin's reaction to the boat being swept away!

Fireworks time!

Yes!

This may be the most beautiful, closest truth to my heart that I have read in a very, very long time/ so I wanted to share it!

Sometimes I cry for you, little one.

Sometimes I cry because the world is so big and you’re so small, and I worry—Oh, do I worry—about your smallness in this big world.

Sometimes I cry because you’re so big and I’m so small, and the bigger you get to me, the smaller I get to you, and I worry—Lord, how I worry—about my smallness in your big world.

Sometimes I cry because this love is too big and my heart is too small, and a bursting heart feels—strangely, painfully—an awful lot like a breaking one.

Sometimes I cry because I’m overwhelmed by the beauty of you.

Sometimes I cry because I’m overwhelmed by the weight of you.

Sometimes I cry because in the process of gaining you, I gave up a version of me, and though I wouldn’t change that even if I could, sometimes I miss me desperately.

Sometimes I cry because your skin is so soft, and your eyes are so bright, and your soul is so new, and your heart is so open, and I’m sad. I’m sad that your innocence will crumble from experiences brutal and necessary, because you are as painfully human as the rest of us.

Sometimes I cry because you need help in ways that I can’t help you, and helplessness as a parent feels—strangely, surprisingly—an awful lot like sheer terror.

Sometimes I cry because as a mother I have no choice but to put on my big-girl panties every day, and both of those things—having no choice and big-girl panties—can be really, really uncomfortable.

Sometimes I cry because I am so unbelievably tired—not sleepy, but tired—that I can’t do anything else.

Sometimes I cry because I hear God in your giggles.

Sometimes I cry because your very existence evokes a joy so profound that smiles and laughter can’t quite reach it.

Sometimes I cry because this blessing is so big and my cup is so small and the overflow has to go somewhere.

Sometimes I cry because all of these things—the love, the worry, the sadness, the beauty, the bursting, the big-girl panties, the blessing—it’s all too much to take. Just too, too much.

So sometimes I cry for you. And for me. And for this big world. And for a thousand other terrible, wonderful, desperate, beautiful reasons that you won’t understand until you’re a parent.

Sometimes I cry for you, little one. Big, cleansing tears.

My brave little boys

The 2013-2014 school year was a tough one in our house when it came to illness. Both Aidan and Connor got ear infection after ear infection all year long. I felt so terrible for both of them! After the 8th round of antibiotics, we were able to have them both scheduled to get tubes put in their ears. (Somehow Gavin escaped this mess and is hardly ever sick!)

While no parent likes to see their child suffer and then go through a full surgery, we are very grateful that their problem was so minor compared to what so many other families endure when it comes to health issues. Every trip to A.I. DuPont Children's Hospital reminded us of how lucky we are and how despite the stress, this is all really no big deal in the grand scheme of life.

I also can't say enough about how much I love this place. We have now needed to use this hospital's services more times than I count- the ER, the surgery center, X-rays and the ENT, and we have never once had a bad experience. Every staff member is extremely professional, yet caring, and we never have to wait more than a few minutes to be seen by someone. If only all experiences of health care could be this way!

Here are the quick pics I snapped of our two patients before they were wheeled back to surgery. Needless to say, they did great and were back to their normal selves once recovered from the anesthesia confusion. Aidan still talks about all the popsicles he enjoyed there, with a big smile on his face. =o)

Aidan Thomas

Aidan had a few safety lessons at school this week. One was the "stop, drop and roll" campaign for fire safety- though according to him it is Stop, JUMP and roll, but close enough :).

This is the picture he drew of him on fire, rolling around. Notice the big smile on his face! When I asked him why he looks so happy even though fire really hurts, he said, "Oops! Sorry, I'm just a nice and happy boy."

Yes, yes you are, my dear, sweet Aidan! ❤️
