Pappy Lucey and Gavin Calvey

...would certainly be two peas in a pod if Pappy was with us today. And while he left this space 13 years ago now, there is no doubt that his spirit lives on and that he is smiling down on us! Gavin does so many things that remind me of him, and below is just one tangible example I thought I'd share with all of you. And I may be biased, but I think Gavin looks a bit better than Pappy did all those times he entered the room in costume! Though Gavin does not quite have the moves Pappy did... yet! :)

For those who never got to know my Pappy Lucey, I thought it would be nice to share some highlights of his life... besides being the life of a party, that is! Pappy was the official female greeter before and after every mass, the bad-joke teller and the silly costumer-wearer at all occasions ;-). He made everyone who knew him smile and laugh, and to me that is his greatest legacy. Here is what the local paper had to say about him in 2000...

John J. "Jack" Lucey Sr., 82, was assistant city treasurer for the City of Easton where he had been employed in the tax collector's office, retiring in 1992 after 35 years. He and his late wife, the former Grace L. Woolf, owned the former Villa Maria Shop and the former Grace's Beauty Shop, both in Easton; and the former Jack's Palace of Skill in Bushkill Park in Palmer Township for 20 years. Born Aug. 17, 1917 in Easton, he was a son of the late Robert and Magaret Korp Lucey. He was a 1935 graduate of Easton High School. He served in the Army during World War II as a platoon sergeant at the Battle of the Bulge, receiving three bronze stars and numerous accomodations. He was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Easton where he served as an usher.
He was a member and past Exalted Ruler of Easton Elks Lodge No. 121. He was a 60-year member of the Knights of Columbus, Union Council No. 345 in Easton, where he served as a member of the 4th Degree Assembly of Pope Pius XII. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Easton where he served as a former toastmaster for more than 20 years. He was an active member of the Democratic Party for 20 years where he was a former campaign manager for his late brother, Ed Lucey, running successful campaigns for city controller.
